Pay per click (ppc) shopping comparison sites.
Kelkoo, Pricerunner and Dealtime are so-called shopping comparison sites. Based around the idea of a directory, products are listed by category, and "like" products from different retailers are listed together providing shoppers with the option to evaluate where is the cheapest place to purchase a specific item online.
Whilst Kelkoo provides msn.co.uk's syndicated shopping search results, pricerunner tends to be much more dilligent in the way that products are directly compared against each other. Dealtime has a large US presence and is growing in the UK - all 3 are different and have their own merits.
Different markets are suited to this type of ppc site in different ways, and the ROI will vary accordingly depending upon your own products.
The main difference between these and bpc search engine results providers is that the click through price is fixed - the cost per click can be higher or lower than bpc depending on the keyword or phrase that your product is found under.
An interesting point to bear in mind is that if your site is in a lower position on google / yahoo / lycos etc, being ranked well on the shopping comparison site which has number one position effectively gets you first position by stealth.
Bid per click.
